Bárbara Maria Farias Mota is a Sociologist and a Masters student in Sociology at the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE) in Brazil. She co-founded The Political Macroscope, an open source interactive platform aiming to help the broader public to better understand the Brazilian elections data. She also founded the “Real Techno Politik,” a weekly newsletter dedicated to the sharing of news, articles, tutorials, events, and web tools, national and international, about technopolitics and society. In 2017 she was selected for a Fellowship at the Political Networks Conference and was awarded with a grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF). In 2018 she was selected for participation in the competitive selection process of the 8th Berlin Summer School in Social Sciences, Democracy at the Crossroads panel. She is currently analyzing the consolidation of WikiLeaks as a transnational advocacy network for radical accountability of governments and corporations. Her research interests include civic technologies, common knowledge, digital democracy, and open science.
